Carlyles Wine Club – Glenelly Estate
July 3 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pmR50
Glenelly is located in Stellenbosch on the slopes of the Simonsberg and was part of the original Ida’s Valley Farm, granted in 1682 to François Villon by Simon van der Stel. In1865 part of the farm was bought by the Garlick Family. Glenelly was born.
It remained under their ownership for more than a century until May de Lencquesaing, the “Grande Dame” of Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, acquired the property in 2003, bringing back a touch of France to this historic valley.
Glenelly, and everything about it, is based on refined taste.
May de Lencquesaing’s tremendous energy and passion for building led to major changes at Glenelly. After a precise terroir study, 60 of the 128ha of the farm have been converted into vineyards. Focusing on quality, the most adapted cultivars were chosen for the different slopes and soils.
A modern, environmental friendly winery with natural gravity flow was completed in 2009. It has been fully equipped with state of the art technology while still leaving enough room for traditional winemaking methods. Finding the perfect balance, while blending the old with the new, is key to the wines of Glenelly Estate.
